Serenity House CD

August 13, 2007

Kevin Mackie, from East Coast Recording Company, has put together an album called “Serenity House” to benefit the Serenity House Hospice being built in Doylestown, PA. The impressive list of artists, who donated songs to the album are: ASIA, Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Annie Haslam (Renaissance), Pat DiNizio (The Smithereens), Robert Hazard, Kathy Sledge (Sister Sledge), Think Of 3, The Luck Brothers, Jann Klose, Sterling Koch (V.I.H.), Dave Renz with Bob Miles and Steve Pullara. Annie Haslam also painted the original artwork “Serenity House” for the CD cover, and designed and designed the CD package with graphic designer Krista Wallhagen. One hundred percent of the profits will go to the hospice.

Nina McKissock, R.N., who (founder and visionary for the house that supports those in hospice care) explains the “Serenity House and Hospice Support of Doylestown Inc. is a volunteer organization providing physical, emotional and spiritual support, without cost, to those incurably ill members of our community and nurtures those who love them. Within a freestanding residence or within someone’s home, our highly trained compassionate volunteers provide non-medical care to those at the end of life Bereavement counseling and financial services are also available.” The capital campaign will begin in the near future and, once the funds are raised, the construction will begin.

This CD was made possible because of caring donations from sponsors: Shop Rite of Warminster (owned and operated by the Brown Family) and The Albin Family Foundation.

The CD, “Serenity House” will be released on September 6th, 2007. There will be a CD release party MC’d by Grover Silcox television personality at WLVT PBS 39 (Tempo TV magazine) and worked ten years at The Fox Morning Show in Philadelphia. The party will be held at the Puck, 1 Printers Alley, in Doylestown, PA. For more information on the release party go to www.pucklive.com. You can purchase the CD at http://www.myspace.com/serenityhousecd.

In the album’s notes, WMGK-Philadelphia radio personality Debbie Calton writes, “The music on this CD was donated by the artists as their way of being a part of the story. All of these musicians have provided their own brand of shelter in this wonderful collection of songs: some gentle and introspective, some rousing and vigorous, all intending to tend to the human spirit.”

We’re mixing!

August 2, 2007

Hi!

July was crazy. Between weekend tourdates and studio sessions during the week I was pretty much spent (there was band with that name says Rob Grenoble!) by the end of the month. OK. I wasn’t spent exactly. But pretty tired. That’s ok since we got done with our tracking at Water Music by the end of July. That’s what we had hoped to do.

The sessions were all in all really productive. Because we’ve been playing these tunes for a considerable amount of time most of them came pretty easy and other than a few technical bugs it was was smooth sailing. Our engineer at Water Music, James Frazee has been a blast to work with. We still have a few overdubs to do but are starting to mix the remainder of the record. That brings me to the songs we recorded with Stewart Lerman which are already mixed and ready for mastering. If all goes well the single will be out as planned late summer.

The road has been treating us well. We played our first Syracuse show ever. That was fun. Good audience and of course upstate NY in July is quite beautiful. If you’ve been you know. If not, well, go. Thanks to everyone that came out to see us. NYC folks turned out in solid numbers and with great energy for our first Saturday night show at Rockwood Music Hall. Can’t wait to be back there. We also had Leah Potteiger on violin back and Megan Weiss-Marolf on oboe sitting in for the first time that night.

Middle of July we had a few shows in Ohio. One of them at Truffles in Cleveland. Lars and Leah both were on the gig. Unfortunately it looks like that may have been our last gig there. Truffles closed. Sucks. I really loved that place and our audience there was just beginning to really grow. I’m staying in touch with Dan, the owner, and will let you know if anything new develops on his end. I am going to back in the area for a festival in Kent, OH September 1st. Check the myspace for details.

Well, what’s next. Starting to book the fall tour for the album release. Working with Anne, my manager, on shopping the tracks and creating marketing materials. Bla bla… not so interesting but a must nevertheless. I’m really looking forward to hearing your response to the new stuff. I’m excited about this record more than I have been about any other I’ve done. It’s gonna be a lot of work getting it out there but it’ll be worth it.

Thanks for reading!

My apologies for being late with this post - things have been a bit crazed. However, I promised I would write about how things have been going for us in the studio. I’m really enjoying working with Stewart Lerman. He’s a wonderful producer and engineer. We’ve recorded 3 songs with him so far and I think we’ll end up doing one more. Next week we’re back at Water Music to track a bunch more songs that I’m producing myself.

The band has been playing so well. We’ve had some great musicians and arrangers record with us - in fact, if you were at the Rockwood Music Hall show in NYC last week you will already have heard the talents of Leah Potteiger on Violin and Pedro da Silva on Portugese guitar. We had a great time that night and I was really pleased with the turn out! Thanks to everyone that came out! If you missed the show, we’ll be back at the Rockwood on July 28th for a Saturday night show!

In addition to Leah and Pedro, we also had Mr. Ryan Scott play electric on these first few tracks we recorded two weeks ago. Ryan sounded great - he’s an exceptional player as far as I’m concerned.

This Spring and Summer is shaping up to be pretty busy. On June 23rd we’re playing at the New York Book Festival in Central Park. In July we’ll perform shows in Canton, OH, Cleveland, OH, Baldwinsville, NY, Syracuse, NY and NYC. I’m also making a trip up to Maine to play guitar for my good friend Jeffrey Frace in a showcase he’s doing at the Stonington Opera House. We hope you can make it out to some of these. The upstate shows will both be new markets for us so please tell your friends in those areas to come by and say hello!

Cool stuff: Our friends at Gotham Records in the UK got “It’s Not The Way” placed on another compilation CD. Released in France, this one is a limited edition CD celebrating the 60th anniversary of the SAAB motor company. “It’s Not The Way” from BLACK BOX EP is the second track on the disc.

SAAB 60th Anniversary CD

Hi all - so, we’re heading into the studio again next week - this time with producer Stewart Lerman. Some of Stewart’s credits include Dar Williams, Loudon Wainwright III, The Roches and music in movies like The Aviator and A Life Aquatic. We’ll be recording at Water Music in Hoboken, NJ. The band will include Chris Marolf, Lars Potteiger, Patrick Carmichael and special guests to be announced.

As you may have noticed, the website is getting a makeover. The new picture you see at the top was taken by the talented Julie Mardin. There’ll be more of her pictures here soon. I’ve been playing around with her pictures and come up with some edits I’m going to use for the main site.

Our next show in NYC is June 6th at Rockwood Music Hall. That’s a Wednesday at 7 pm. We hope you can make it out. In addition to the band there’ll be a couple of guest musicians sitting in with us at the show.

I started working with a great new booking agency called The Central New York Showcase. They’ve been working on the upstate NY market and we’ll be playing a couple of shows upstate in June and July as well as a college show in October.

More soon - I will let you know how the sessions go next week.

Hi -

Some exciting news to share: Yesterday we recorded “Question of the Heart” for a compilation CD that will raise money for the building of a hospice in Doylestown, PA. Also on the CD: Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull; Annie Haslam/Renaissance as well as ASIA and many more! Chris wrote a beautiful arrangement for upright bass/cello for this piece that we’ve been performing on the road for a while now. The CD is set to be released September 2007.
