Going to California

January 5, 2009

Happy new year!

2008 was an incredible year for me. Packed with about 100 shows in 3 countries, I’ve been lucky enough to share the stage with folks like Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, Annie Haslam & John Tout of Renaissance as well as Rosanne Cash, Marty Stuart and Roger McGuinn. On many of these shows I was fortunate to have various members of my band play with me: Chris, Lars, Leah, Megan, Patrick, Sherry here in the States and Mario in Germany… and I’m grateful to all of them. This past year we played some of the biggest and yes, some of the smallest shows ever! But one thing I’ve learned is that whether you play for 10 people or 1000 people you always play for those that are in the audience not those that aren’t. Where did I get that phrase from? Elliott Murphy… and, this brings me to the next classic artist I’ve been able to share the stage with and will again on this upcoming second leg of our tour.

Please join us for these dates and if you cannot make it, yes, please tell your friends! It really does help… and, thank you a million times over to those of you that have already told your friends, emailed and called them, rallied to get them out in large groups to shows and posted hundreds of bulletins and comments online to promote them – you know who you are!

Lastly, I want to annouce is that I am working on new songs, some of which we’ve started to play on the road and will start recording this Spring… more on that soon. O, and I will be reunited with two of my favourite people and musicians yet again when I play at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles this Saturday! Kevin Hindes and Sherry Luchette will be playing with me that night (both played on every damn song on The Strangest Thing, which is having a renaissance of it own thanks to the guys on Chicago’s Feast of Fools).

Here goes, see you soon? Thank you all once again!

    Jann,

Jeff, Doral and I are so grateful to you for your excellent advice and awesome performance at Cafe DuNord in San Francisco. I would have to say it was the best live and up close vocal performance I’ve experienced in many years. Thanks for teaching us so much from your experience and example.
