We’re mixing!
August 2, 2007
Hi!
July was crazy. Between weekend tourdates and studio sessions during the week I was pretty much spent (there was band with that name says Rob Grenoble!) by the end of the month. OK. I wasn’t spent exactly. But pretty tired. That’s ok since we got done with our tracking at Water Music by the end of July. That’s what we had hoped to do.
The sessions were all in all really productive. Because we’ve been playing these tunes for a considerable amount of time most of them came pretty easy and other than a few technical bugs it was was smooth sailing. Our engineer at Water Music, James Frazee has been a blast to work with. We still have a few overdubs to do but are starting to mix the remainder of the record. That brings me to the songs we recorded with Stewart Lerman which are already mixed and ready for mastering. If all goes well the single will be out as planned late summer.
The road has been treating us well. We played our first Syracuse show ever. That was fun. Good audience and of course upstate NY in July is quite beautiful. If you’ve been you know. If not, well, go. Thanks to everyone that came out to see us. NYC folks turned out in solid numbers and with great energy for our first Saturday night show at Rockwood Music Hall. Can’t wait to be back there. We also had Leah Potteiger on violin back and Megan Weiss-Marolf on oboe sitting in for the first time that night.
Middle of July we had a few shows in Ohio. One of them at Truffles in Cleveland. Lars and Leah both were on the gig. Unfortunately it looks like that may have been our last gig there. Truffles closed. Sucks. I really loved that place and our audience there was just beginning to really grow. I’m staying in touch with Dan, the owner, and will let you know if anything new develops on his end. I am going to back in the area for a festival in Kent, OH September 1st. Check the myspace for details.
Well, what’s next. Starting to book the fall tour for the album release. Working with Anne, my manager, on shopping the tracks and creating marketing materials. Bla bla… not so interesting but a must nevertheless. I’m really looking forward to hearing your response to the new stuff. I’m excited about this record more than I have been about any other I’ve done. It’s gonna be a lot of work getting it out there but it’ll be worth it.
Thanks for reading!
JK

bla bla bla? Marketing isn’t interesting, Jann? Oh yes, it is! Well, for me! I get to spend my days (and nights) telling everyone about your music, plus other artists I work with. Part of the job includes meeting with friends and acquaintances, who work in different kinds of businesses. I talk with them to make sure they help spread the word on your music.
For instance, on Friday, August 3, I went to Hoboken to chat with Rob at Water Music. And we got to have you hang out with us for a little bit to discuss strategy. I sincerely understand that your heart and soul were focused on the music that day, working in the studio with Stewart on mixes. But it was fantastic to have you and Stewart at that meeting!
